Mid-month Theme: Subway Day

Right on, this time I make it with the Subway Day!
Végre, most nem késtem le a Metró Napról!

This beautiful station in Budapest is called Battyhány tér (=square), in Buda, just opposite to the Parlament, accross the river.
Ez a gyönyörű metróállomás Budapesten a Battyhány tér, Budán, pont szemben a Parlamenttel.

They recently renovated the red subway line (also called #2, but I think it's much easier to remember these lines by their colors). At a few stations they decorated the walls with these giant photos.
Nem olyan régen újították fel a piros vonalat (2-es metrónak is hívják, de szerintem sokkal könnyebb rájuk emlékezni a színük alapján). Néhány állomást ilyen óriásfotókkal dekoráltak.

This is how the Battyhány tér looks like, viewed from the Pest side of the Danube.
Így néz ki a Batthyány tér, a Duna pesti oldaláról.

And this is the Parlament:

Aren't they beautiful? However, it's extremely pity that when I was there last time, this scene was messed up with all kind of huge advertisement billboards. Now, Instead of a beautiful, upscale subway in Budapest which should attract more tourists just by its aesthetics - now it's a cheap looking, tasteless, messy one, because somebody thought they would make a couple of quicks bucks with the ads...

So, this subway theme, gav me a good reason to find your blog! I will be back!

I undertand your comments about the ads. As you say, it's really a pity to hide these nicely decorated walls! In Paris I guess we are now so used to it that we don't really think about it - also, our walls are mostly just white tiles and I believe there was space prepared for ads already from the very beginning - around 1900-1910.

Very nice subway station.
I met Peter and Raindrop in Paris in last april. Peter is really a good man. Later he took for me several photos of some places I knew in Paris when I was little and young girl and I do love.
